COINS support is central to the Berkeley Nanotechnology Club’s (BNC) accomplishments towards educating the Berkeley community about the impact of nanotechnology and its promising future. The BNC supports the ethical invention, development, and implementation of novel nanotechnologies by facilitating discussion amongst the present and future leaders of technical industries.

With a campus-wide membership of more than 400 participants, the BNC encourages research and entrepreneurship in nanotechnology by mixing students from different departments covering business, technology, and law. COINS funding and leadership have enabled the BNC to provide the Bay Area community with Berkeley Nanotechnology Forums since 2006, addressing issues of compelling importance to nanoscientists, the business sector, and all of society. Additionally, COINS support helped BNC hold the first ever Berkeley Nano Opportunity Challenge—a business plan competition focused on nanotechnologies being developed in Bay Area universities.
